Children receive free NHS eye examinations
All children should be examined at least twice prior to school entry, initially around the age of 2.
9 out of 10 children will have perfectly normal vision, but an annual eye examination should be a routine precaution, just like a regular dental check up.
The ability to
read letters is not required.
The screening tests carried out at infant welfare and school clinics have a limited value but are not full eye examinations and will not reveal most variations of visual performance.
Poor vision will inhibit learning and optical help can often assist in children with learning difficulties, for example suspected dyslexia.
Approximately 1 child in 10 will need to wear spectacles either all or some of the time.
We have a full range of attractive spectacle frames
available free of charge for children (with NHS Voucher)
We also realise that sometimes your children can be a little more
demanding in styles and latest trends and we have full range of high fashion
designer labelled frames.
We would remind parents that it is illegal for unregistered spectacle suppliers to dispense frames or lenses to children and young people under 16 years of age.
