Spence Bate recorded in 1872 that there were "two upright [stones] implanted in the ground near the margin on the southern side of the cairn. These appear to stand in a similar position in relation to the cairn to those ... noticed under Penbeacon."
In 1993, Butler reported that "these ... have disappeared, no doubt covered by the spread of stone."
