      DECIBELS TO THE RESCUE

Decibels, who are one of our newsletter sponsors, have taken on board the increase of theft from and theft of vehicles and want to help.

Firstly, the theft from motor vehicles figures have increased somewhat sharply and we would remind you all to refrain from leaving anything of any value in your car.

Secondly, have you property marked your car stereo?.

      Thought not!!

Well, Decibels have agreed to remove radio/cassettes from your dashboard, mark them with UV Security markers with your post-code and replace them all for the bargain price of £2.50.

This is well worth it and should your radio be stolen and recovered, the Police will stand a better chance of returning this to you and charging the criminals as well.

This offer will apply for a limited period excluding Saturdays and will be subject to some restrictions (please ring them to discuss).

Decibels are also offering , on production of this newsletter, a discount of 15% on the fitting of alarms and immobilisers so contact them now for full details of the best system for you.

We do appreciate that an alarm or immobiliser may not be cheap but neither is the cost of making a claim for theft of your car under your motor insurance policy.

When you take into account the £100 or so excess you have to pay and then the loss of your No Claims Bonus Discount, then the cost of making your car more secure seems to be the cheaper option.

Don’t wait until you become a victim of car crime, ACT NOW.

      DOOR SIGNS

We still have a limited supply of door signs for those of you who don’t want any Hawkers, Free Papers or Circulars which you put up at your door.

Should you need one, please let us know and we will organise one for you.

Whilst on this subject, please remember not to let any strangers into your house unless you are absolutely sure you know who they are- if in doubt then keep them out.

      BOWLATHON RESULTS

Thank you to all of you who joined in the 24 Hour Bowlathon to raise money for Simon Larn and just want you to know that over £6,500 was raised by the many local organisations who gave up their time and money for this worthy cause. /P>

Simon and his family would like to thank everyone who made this event such a success.

      Well done to you all.

      REPORTERS REQUIRED

We would remind you all to continue being observant and report incidents and anything suspicious straight away to help the Police tackle the increased crime.

Should you also have any information regarding any of the incidents overleaf, or indeed any other crimes, please do not hesitate to contact the Police-it could be a small but vital bit of information which may solve a crime.

      Streetwise kits are safer kids

Streetwise is an exciting new interactive safety education centre in Bournemouth. It is a registered charity and its purpose is to give kids the education they need to be safer on the streets.

The process is based on interactive learning, the kids take part in the whole process as if it is real life. Interactive learning offers the opportunity for kids to experience the real life dangers in a controlled environment so that they can learn h w to avoid the dangers and what to do in an emergency.

Streetwise has been built inside a warehouse and the scenarios used are life size and life-like. The scenarios used include a high street with shops and offices, a park, a beach, railway track, heathland, building site, electricity sub-station, dar alleyways and a two story house.

We are trying to plan a trip for up to 53 adults and kids on Saturday 15 May. The cost will be £8.50 for adults and £7.50 for kids. The cost includes coach return fare to Billericay and entrance to ‘Streetwise’. The plan is to leave B llericay at 07:30, arrive at ‘Streetwise’ at 10:00, start the Streetwise experience at 10:30 and finish it about 13:00; that should leave a couple of hours to look around Bournemouth before leaving at around 17:00, arriving Billericay about 19:30.

All kids must by accompanied by adults, we have no supervision for unaccompanied kids. We suggest the minimum age of five for kids going into ‘Streetwise’. If you are interested please reserve your places by using the reply slip at the bottom of the page, if we get enough interest we will book the trip, if not we will return your uncashed cheque.

This looks like a great way for kids and adults to gain experience in a controlled environment. What they learn there could save a life, maybe their own.

LET’S END ON A GOOD NOTE

      DRUGS...AND ROCK AND ROLL?

Well maybe not Rock and Roll ? but certainly Drugs are the subject of our April Meeting on the 14th April.

Many of you may think that this subject holds no interest for you but unfortunately drugs are the cause of much crime in this country.

Some drug users will turn to crime to pay for their habit so we need to know how to tackle the subject so here’s you chance to find out all about it.

You might be a parent who is concerned about your child so you both might want to come along to listen to our guest speaker Inspector Jackie Cheers.

All members are welcome so we hope to see you on the night.

      Streetwise Trip

Last orders are now being taken so if you don’t book now then you miss the boat...or the coach!!.

As per the February and March newsletter, we ask that you send in a cheque for the cost of the trip and once we have a coach full, we can then confirm your seat and your cheque will be paid in.

Should there be a shortfall in numbers and the trip have to be cancelled then your cheque will be returned to you.

Please remember that we could all learn from this adults and children alike and if we all take on board something that we need in an emergency then the money will have been well spent.

Please reserve ____ adult places at £8.50 each and ____ child places at £7.50 each for the Streewise trip on Saturday 15 May.

Cheque for the total of £______________ made payable to Billericay Neighbourhood Watch Schemes enclosed. The cost includes return coach trip and admission. If we fail to get enough sales to cover the cost of the coach, we will return your chequ .
