    Tribute to Bill Rogers

On Friday the 7th of July, Mrs Rogers and some of her family kindly joined us for the dedication of a cherry tree to the memory of Bill Rogers. Bill was a great supporter of Billericay Neighbourhood Watch for many years, but he sadly passed away in January this year.
Bill was a prize winning gardener and we thought a tree would be a fitting memorial to his memory. The tree is in the front garden of the Police Station, along with a memorial plaque.
Our grateful thanks go to Mrs Rogers for allowing us to raise the tribute, Basildon Parks Department for obtaining and planting the tree and Inspector Steve Tutton and PC Kevin Hopton for leading the service.

    Billericay fun Day

Well the rain held off, but only just! We ran the usual coconut shy and attracted a good number of visitors. Besides increasing our funds by a few pounds we were able to get a good number of 'Say No to Strangers'packs out to kids.

Many thanks to JB's Greengrocers, who for the second year running supplied and delivered 100 coconuts at cost price and to all the members who showed up to lend a hand and gave us support.

    Walking Quiz and BBQ

Again the weather was on our side. We lit the BBQ at 11:00 and the rain stopped, which was quite amazing, as it usually happens the other way around. About 60 people turned up at the Police Station for the Walking Quiz along the High Street (they all made it back again) and the BBQ in the side garden.
Inspector Steve Tutton run a number of guided tours of the station, while Sergeant Steve Smith and PC Kevin Hopton took care of the cooking.
As the last hot dog and burger was eaten at 2 pm, the skies opened and the rain came down - perfect timing!
Thanks to everyone who came along to help and to enjoy the food. If you missed it this year, don't worry, we plan to do it again next year.

    Cycle Marking

A number of you noticed the deliberate mistake in the last newsletter - I got the date wrong. The real date is Saturday 19 August, 10 am to 1pm at the Police Station Just turn up with your bikes and have them marked. There is no carge.

    Welcome to Steve Smith

Sergeant Steve Smith has joined Billericay Police, and one of his first tasks was to be the Master Chef at the Police Station BBQ, so watch out for him in the High Street. like the rest of the team at Billericay Police Station, he is a really nice person, so if you see him, say hallo.

    Damage to Walls

Following the outbreak of mindless damage to garden walls in the area, two people were interviewed by the Police. No charges were pressed, but the damage stopped straight away. Not the result we were hoping for, but the problem is that the yobs have to be caught in the act and that proved difficult. Many thanks to the local residents who reported the crimes and gave the Police the leads they needed to identify the suspects.

    Streetwise Visit

We are still planning to re-visit Streetwise in Bournemouth in October, but we do not yet have enough places booked to fill the coach.
