Billericay Police Station, Billericay CM12 9AB

    01277 631212 ext 45431

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR MEMBERS

So now you have all those new things you got for Christmas, remember to mark them with your Post Code and house number or name.
If you need advice on how to mark property just ask us. we have some very good pamphlets you are welcome to.
Most property can be marked with an ultra violet pen, if you do not have one, please call in at the Police Station and ask for one at the front desk, they are free of charge.
Marking does not last forever, so now is a goodtime to renew the markings on all your property. The best method is to use your Post Code followed by your house number or house name:

    CMI2 9AB/1

If you move home, remember to re-mark your property, the best method is to put a line through the previous mark and add a new one:

    '-------------------- CM99 XYZ/ 99

Tools and other heavy equipment can be engraved and we have the kits to do it with, again if you would like to borrow a kit, please let us know.
Every year the Police recover a huge amount of stolen property that they cannot trace back to the rightful owners because it is not marked. After a reasonable time the property is either disposed of or sold at auction. Don't let that happen to you valuables, take the time to mark your property.

    Liaison Officer

After five years of unstinting service Sandra Burton has taken a well-earned rest. We have expressed our thanks to Sandra for the considerable amount of work she has put in over the years and we now need to look forward and engage a new Liaison Officer for Billericay Neighbourhood Watch. If you are interested please contact us at the Police Station. The main purpose of the job is to represent Billericay Neighbourhood Watch to all the other bodies we deal with and to maintain and expand the work we already do. Typically the Liaison office is at the Police Station a couple of times a week and plays a crucial role in all our activities. Like all the Neighbourhood Watch posts it is voluntary work; but very satisfying.

    Message in a Bottle

This is an initiative organized by Neighbourhood Watch and supported by many organizations, including Essex County Council and Essex Community Foundation. This voluntary scheme is intended for use by any person whilst living at home. The scheme provides the Emergency Services with vital details of any illness or allergy you may suffer from, medication you may be taking and the name of a person to be contacted in the event of you suffering a sudden illness or accident.

How it works: The kit comprises a plastic bottle, details form and location stickers.
You record your details on the form and place the form in the plastic bottle and store the bottle in the fridge. Why the fridge? Two reasons, the fridge is easy to recognize and usually in the same place in any house, and in a fire the contents of the fridge are usually preserved.
One sticker is placed on the plastic bottle to make it instantly recognizable, one sticker in placed on the fridge door to show the bottle is inside and the last sticker is placed on the inside of the front door.
If the emergency services are called to your home they will look for the sticker on the inside of the front door and then search out the bottle. They will they have a good idea of who they are dealing with and be aware of any medical conditions. The emergency services do struggle when called to the home of an unconscious person and they have no idea of who they are dealing with, who to contact or when medical conditions may be prevailing. This simple scheme could save your life.
If you would like a bottle please call at the Police Station and collect one at reception. The bottles are free of charge, the cost is entirely funded by local councils and other organizations.
We have taken delivery of about 300 bottles and more are on the way, soif the bottles are not available when you call, please leave your name, address, phone number and the number of bottles you require and we will tell you when they are ready for collection.

Meeting Dates for 2001 are all on Wednesday evenings, starting at 8 p.m. at the Football Club, everyone is welcome! 14 February, 11 April, 13 June, 8 August. 10 October and 5 December.
