ANN  ATKNSON  B.Ed,  L.R.A.M,  Dip Adv R.A.M

 

Ann was appointed Musical Director of the Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir in March 2002. Born in N. Wales and educated at Ysgol y Berwyn, Bala and  the University of Wales . After  gaining her B.Ed (Hons) she pursued a teaching career before winning a scholarship to study singing at the Royal Academy of Music in London .

Since then she has sung with many of Britain’s leading Opera Companies including  Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera,  Wexford Festival Opera, Glyndebourne Touring Opera,  Mid Wales Opera, Central Festival Opera and Opera Box. On the concert platform her repertoire includes the Verdi Requiem, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Brahms' Alto Rhapsody and Mozart’s Requiem.  She has sung Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Handel’s Messiah at St. James’s Piccadilly and Ely Cathedral. Recent work has included the role of Carmen, a return to Scottish Opera for a production of Onegin and a performance of the Mathew Passion at Bury St Edmunds Cathedral.

Her career has taken her to many countries. She has sung in Europe, the U.S.A., the Caribbean and Asia including the role of Mamma Lucia (Cavalleria Rusticana) in Ho Chi Minh City, as part of the first professional production to take place there since the end of the Vietnam war. This summer she was the guest soloist for the Lions Choir during their tour of New Zealand and their final concert was at the Sydney Opera House.

Ann is the Artistic Director for the North Wales International Music Festival and the St.Asaph City of Music initiative and also Musical Director of Côr Meibion Bro Glyndŵr.

It can be seen that Ann enjoys leading a very busy  musical life.
