OBITUARY

Rev Samuel Owen BA Llangollen

Translated from the original published in The Year Book of the Welsh Calvinistic Methodist Church. 1954

He was born in Froncysyllte in 1868. He was one of seven children. In his formative years, he was brought up by his grandfather and grandmother in the Old Colwyn area. He returned to Froncysyllte where he became interested in church life. For a while he worked in a coal mine. He then proceeded to take a course at the Walton School in Llangollen. He worked hard and conscientiously; he was an excellent and successful student at the colleges of Bala and Aberystwyth and at the College of the University in Bangor. He taught for a short time at “Adran” College in Bala

He married Miss Sarah Ann Davies, Brynbanon, Llandderfel. His first pastorates were the churches of Carneddau and Creiglwyd near Oswestry. Later he ministered to the church of Penllyn, Llangollen. He retired from active work and settled at Iscoed, Llangollen. There he died on February 16th 1953 and was laid to rest in the cemetery of Froncysyllte. The citizens of the town were very fond of him. He was a diligent worker, a reliable friend and a caring minister. His whole attitude was marked by a spirit of endearment and childlike simplicity. He had learnt the art of being pleasant and yet strong. He will genuinely be missed.
