Well, if you've read the previous pages, it's fairly simple..... What with the cost of Rory's helpers and the cost of a specialist to monitor the programme, the whole thing is pretty expensive. And that's not even including the fact that because Rory's mum and dad are doing a lot of the management themselves, the cost is in fact lower!
But isn't there government help for all of this? Surely the Local Education Authority pays?
Yes and no. Rory has a Statement of Special Educational Needs, which means that in
theory the LEA is responsible for providing the education he needs and paying for it.
Unfortunately what the needs of an autistic child are is not something easily defined,
and the fact that every child is different does not fit in well with the edcuational
matrix!
So, as a result, Rory's education is partly paid for by the LEA and
the remainder (a shortfall of about £5-6,000 each year) has to be paid in some other way.....
Which is where the sponsors come in?
Got it in one! The whole point of this exercise (foolish as it is to make our bodies
go through it all!) is to raise as much money for Rory's trust fund. This is a separately
held and operated trust fund, which goes to fund items for Rory (such as his education)
that cannot be paid for through any other means. It is run by his parents and by other
trustees who use the money for his needs, (with no administrative costs!)
