The Beginning
Twenty years prior to the events of Aftermath Dayna's mother was part of a revolutionary group
who surrendered but were then massacred by security forces. As a baby Dayna fled Earth with her father, Hal Mellanby, to start a new life on the planet Sarran. When she was older she
helped her father with his profession of designing defense systems.
Avon meets Dayna for the first time when his escape pod crash lands on Sarran (Aftermath).
Dayna finds the pod and takes the unconscious Avon back to her cave where she plants a kiss on him and tells him he is very beautiful.
Later the ex-revoluntionary, Hal Mellanby, was killed by Servalan and this propelled Dayna out of their refuge and into the universe of Liberator and the Federation with a personal feud to prosecute.
The Character
Dayna was well educated with most of her tuition being given by computer. Hal somehow
also managed to arrange tutors to visit Sarran to advance Dayna's education, one of these being Justin whom she later visited on Bucol-2.
Physically Dayna was tall, lithe and strong. She had a penchant for risky confrontation ('Without danger there's no pleasure'), preferring primitive weapons like the bow or unarmed
combat to more mundane methods of attack/defence. Her martial prowess was considerable; in the battle to regain Liberator, Avon and Tarrant watched with amused
admiration as she disposed barehanded of the vile Klegg.
Her relationships with the rest of the crew were obscure, except in the case of Vila where she
was openly contemptuous on a number of occasions. She made no further advances towards Avon and none towards Tarrant. She did, however, seem tied to the crew by more
than the simple desire to kill Servalan. Her initial enthusiasm for killing in general seemed to abate fairly rapidly after boarding Liberator. She regarded Justin's work with undisguised
revulsion at first, and expressed a general distaste for war in general.
The End
Dayna stayed with the Liberator until its destruction at Terminal and then with Scorpio until its final flight to Gauda Prime (Blake) where they met up with Blake.
Shortly after their meeting the crew were ambushed by Federation troops and this is where she was shot. Presumably she was killed.
