The Beginning
Many years prior to the events in Rescue Soolin's family were one of the first to settle on Gauda
Prime. Soolin was 8 years old when the mining corporations moved in and, when her family refused to make way for them, they were all murdered. Gauda Prime was an open planet at
this time so the killings were not technically illegal. Soolin trained under one of the men responsible and learned to be a gunslinger. When she had learned their trade she took
revenge for her relatives murder by killing her teacher and the rest of the group of killers.
Soolin meets Avon and the rest of the crew in Rescue when they arrive at Xenon. She is
Dorian's companion, but he clearly felt little for her, as he included her as Cally's replacement in his projected gestalt. She then vanished for up to 48 hours, but came back soon after Avon
had made the teleport system workable. She joins the crew after the death of Dorian.
The Character
Soolin is the most acid of the crew's ladies. Composed, cool and independent, she has quite
a lot in common with Avon, including a determination never to show any sentiment. Her approach to problems is pragmatic, she shows no interest in ethical considerations and is
prompt to act when she sees the necessity. She conceals Orac from Muller's robot, preventing a catastrophic union that would enslave mankind (Headhunter). She also detects Piri's
masquerade (Assassin) in time to save Avon from a nasty death.
Soolin's skill as a gunfighter was formidable and although she could, and frequently did, kill
without any sign of compunction, there were indications that she did so within a strict personal code of conduct. She strongly disapproved of Keiller killing Slaten on the basis that the doctor
was unarmed. She also seemed to be quick to form an opinion of people, rapidly growing tired of Piri, having little time for Zukan, but warming to Zeeona straight away and helping her slip
back to Xenon Base to be with Tarrant
Right from the start she claimed to give no allegiance to the rest of the crew. 'You give your allegiance easily?' asks Avon rather warily. "I don't give my allegiance at all" comes the reply "I sell my skills".
The End
Soolin stayed with Scorpio until its final flight back to her home planet of Gauda Prime (Blake) where they met up with Blake. Shortly after their meeting the crew
were ambushed by Federation troops and she died in the ensuing battle.
