Zen
Zen was the speaking computer that ran all Liberator functions including battle and navigation, engines and weaponry, and the life support system. It spoke in
the lofty tones of a senior civil servant.
It's primary function was to preserve the ship which it would do so to the point of rejecting instructions which would result in the destruction of the ship. Zen
could be told to accept commands only from recognised members of the crew, recognition being keyed to voice.
Zen had access to a lot of information about Federation territory so it would
be safe to surmise that The System had probably surreptitiously tapped into Federation databanks as well as conducting its own exploration. Several times did Zen's independence prove to be dangerous. In Time Squad, it
disrupted the teleport system and refused to admit Blake and Jenna, who were aboard an alien ship, into the hold. Also, when the crew entered forbidden territory, as defined by The System, it shut down completely taking
all other computers with it, thus creating some serious systems instability.
Zen was voiced by Peter Tuddenham
Inside Liberator
Inside the ship had an advanced and alien feel. The cabins were comfortable and there were enough food
concentrates to last 1,000 man-years. Different parts of the ship included the flight deck, teleporter room, surgical unit, an armory with a gun locker which could hold 35 guns, a strong room containing 300 million
credits and the main computer room.
All rooms on board the liberator were
connected via a network of brightly lit corridors.
Communicators were placed throughout the ship to allow the hailing of crew members.
Flight Deck
The flight deck had seating for all crew in the direction of a main viewscreen and this where Zen had a physical presence.
From here flight could be manually controlled, but was usually governed by automatic back-up computers that kept the ship's complex systems in balance.
Without the automatic systems, control could be lost very rapidly.

The main viewscreen could be changed to project different external images.
Teleporter Room
The teleporter room consisted of the teleporter itself, a console, and a bank of bracelets.
The teleporter itself allowed the instantaneous transportation of matter between two points. See also bracelets.
Surgical Unit
The surgical unit was well equipped and contained a diagnostic analyser, resuscitation capsules, tranquilliser pads, and vor-ray scan.
First Contact
The prison ship London found Liberator adrift and abandoned in space after detouring around a space battle (Space Fall). The first attempt to board the ship resulted in the death of two guards, Wallace and Teague,
who break contact without explanation. Krell followed soon after but was driven to insanity. Then Blake, Vila, and Jenna, were ordered to board. They encountered a defense globe that lured intruders with an irresistible
image plucked from the mind but it was Blake, through his knowledge of his altered memories, who was able to deactivate the device.
Soon after gaining access to the ship Jenna made first contact with Zen when she placed her hand on a sensory pad. Zen accepted her as the ships pilot and takes the name Liberator from her mind and referred
to the ship as such immediately afterwards. Jenna took the controls and piloted the ship away to freedom.
The System attempted to repossess DSV2 (in Redemption) but Orac destroys DSV1 and their all powerful central computer, this eliminated the threat of 'The System' for the foreseeable future.
The Final Voyage
On its final voyage, to Terminal, the Liberator flew through a cloud of fluid particles that began to digest the
ship, weakening it to the point where it broke apart once the main drives were activated. Those aboard were killed in the resulting explosion, except for Servalan who escaped, by her own account via a freak power
surge through the teleport system
