Report on 2005
Ram Assessment Day at Worcester Market
There were 45 animals at the assessment day of which 18 were shearling rams, 21 flock ewes and 6 stock rams.
The market was the ideal venue to choose the top 5 rams for using within the group in the 2005 season.
The display of ewes and older rams also showed the high standard of stock breeding within Blue Sires.
The event was sponsored by the EBLEX Better Returns Programme. Sam Boon was on hand to discuss the importance of buying recorded animals to a number of farmers who visited the open meeting.

Table 2005/1:Top Shearling Rams at Assessment Day

CHB AB141 Churchbridge Brigand was placed ahead of all the other rams because he was a a well fleshed ram which handled well and had plenty of character. Not the longest of rams or the highest indexed, but he was still very correct and the judges were unanimous in their decision to place him 1st overall.
AST AB1 was placed 2nd because he was a very correct ram handling well, with good colour and character. His low index did not exclude him from the final line-up as his owner was not retaining him for breeding.
Presentation of the 'Whinholme Top Tup Trophy' was made to Maurice Jones (for the second year) for his excellent ram Churchbridge Brigand. Stan Kilby was the runner up with AST AB1.
