Preparation

Preparing your top for long-arm machine quilting
  1. If you supply your own backing and/or batting please ensure that they are:
  • Supplied as separate pieces and not sandwiched together.
  • At least 3” larger all round than your pieced top to allow for the shrinkage that naturally occurs during quilting.
  • Pre-washed, unless you wish to achieve an antique look when the quilt is subsequently washed.
  1. If the edges of your quilt are pieced, please stay-stitch them as this will help minimise any stretching or puckering of the finished edges.

  2. Press your pieced top and backing (if supplied) and snip all thread ends.

  3. If you wish one of the edges of your quilt to be treated as the top please mark this with a label.

If, for example, you choose a pattern with flowers you may wish for these to ‘grow’ up your bed quilt rather than down!
