The club has decided to restart winter training sessions at The Community House at Castlepark, Ellon. Bring your bike and turbo trainers and it re-commences on Tuesday 27th November from 6.30pm to 8.00pm. Anyone interested in becoming a coach?
Andy and Linda are moving to Stonehaven at the end of the year as Andy has a new job at St Cyrus. We wish them both well, and thank them for their contribution to the club this last year. Andy is joining Deeside Thistle who have members in Stonehaven. Obviously as Linda is leaving we are looking for a replacement editor for our Newsletter. I will produce something to circulate to members for the AGM in Feb/Mar 2002, but we would like someone with a flair for communication skills to help the club as Editor. They do not necessary have to be a cyclist, as members would provide them with information for the Newsletter, and others like myself, Lorna & Mike will do articles. It is important that members are kept up to date with information on our club, so we would like to bring out a newsletter every 2/3 months; (and it would look good on a CV for computer skills and communication skills!!!).
Deeside Thistle have invited our members to join them on the 28th November at 8.00pm in their Clubrooms at Garlogie for a talk from Chris Tonge. Chris was a courier in Edinburgh who left for the Continent and has joined a Flanders Pro Team. He started with nothing, and is now a top professional. Chris will talk about training and nutrition.
Philip Watson is doing a PhD in Exercise Physiology at the University of Aberdeen, and is conducting research into the effects of some nutritional supplements at improving at improving cycling performance when exercising in the heat. (why would you study that in Aberdeen??). There is no financial reward, but he will be able to provide any volunteer with with information regarding their fitness (e.g. VO2 max, lactate threshold, maximal heart rate). Phil Watson 01224 552521 or 07974 714331 or email p.watson@abdn.ac.uk.
