Ythan CC Ladies Team
Our ladies did very well in 2005 at the
Aberdeen District Best All Rounder Time Trial competition over 10, 25 and 50
miles. It was a clean sweep with Fiona Duncan first, Caroline Runcie second, and
Carol Middleton third. Well done.
Ythan CC 2006 Programme
Club Runs are organised by Russell Craig
on Sunday mornings at 9.00am (in the summer) from the Community Centre at Ellon.
Sometimes they will be on mountain bikes. Contact Russell
Craig for details 01224 823801,or visit the web site on www.ythancc.org.uk
We organise a confined (ie open to
members and potential members) time trial league series throughout the summer.
The race is an individually timed time trial with a handicap system, and is run
on every second Tuesday commencing 11th April at 6.30pm from the
Somerfield Essentials Supermarket at Auchterellon (was the Mace at Auchterellon),
on the Ellon-Tarves road. (the distance is approx 10 miles) and there are
categories for junior, youth, ladies and mountain bikers). On every alternate
Tuesday (commencing the 18th April) training runs are held starting from the
Somerfield Essentials or
Mintlaw
Academy
at the same time. A kingcycle test to establish your maximum heart rate can be
arranged by Charlie Allan.
Included in the league this year will be
all our open Time Trials to the end of August. The events we are organising are
:-
Hilly 20
30th April (Bob Hill)
25 Mile TT
21st June
Road
Race
24th June (Jack Grant)*
2 up 22mile TT 2nd August (Lorna
Adam)
Australian Pursuit
10th Sept (Carol Middleton)
All Scottish Cycling events are in the
SC web page, follow the links from the Ythan Web Site.www.ythancc.org.uk An SC
entry form is attached (please copy), or go to the SC web page from the links on
the Ythan site and go to “downloads”. Note there is no handbook being isuued
by Scottish Cycling in 2006. Entry forms need to be sent to the organiser 10
days in advance with a stamped address envelope. Champioship events are 28 days.
Jack’s Road Race is an SCU Development
Series Event, and the series is promoted for juniors and non elite or 1st
Cat riders. The series gives inexperienced road riders a chance to flavour road
racing without competing with the top riders.
Helpers are required for all races.
Please put the dates in your diary, and be available to help if you are not
racing. The Hilly 20 needs 7 helpers, the Road Race 12, the 2up 8, the 25 TT 3,
and the APR 8.
Membership
We would welcome new members, especially juniors and juveniles. Spread the
word.
Club Clothing
You will need the club clothing to enter open events, unless you wear a
white top. If anyone needs new or replacement tops, shorts, etc contact Andy on
01358 720441721599, and once he has enough items to get the discount he will
place another order.
Keeeping Informed
Bob Hill (01358 722449 or email rjhill@marathonoil.com)
is the editor of our web site www.ythancc.org.uk.
We need help from the members with
articles, photos etc for our great web site.
Cycling Magazines. Cycling Weekly has up to date general information,
Cycle Sport is a monthly production that focuses on the “ professional”
scene. There are always quite a lot of mountain bike mags in the newsagents. One
advantage of getting the cycling magazines is that you can order parts and
accessories from mail order companies, but you need to be mechanically minded to
fit them. You can also try the internet.
Entering Open Events
Please enter events by the close date. Late entries cause the organiser a
lot of extra work. Enclose a stamped address envelope and you will receive a
start sheet and any amendments to the course. Also make cheques payable to the
organiser, not the club, or District, or SC. As the organiser has to cash the
cheques prior to the event, get the cash for the prizes, and pay the levies to
the District within 7 days of the event. The Club Treasurer or District
Treasurer should not be involved, as it is extra work for everyone.
Child Protection Policy
Enclosed with this Newsletter is a
“Quick Guidelines” to our policy on The Protection of Children and Young
People. We are enclosing a form once again for those taking photographs. Anyone
taking photographs of children (under 18) must complete the form. Please
complete the form and send to Jack for presentation, Graham for Confined Events,
and other race organisers.
Cycling equipment
Lids only last for 3
years, as sweat causes significant deterioration to the inner shell.
Don’t take a risk, renew.
Chains will last for 6000 miles, and
this is not a lot of miles for a competitive cyclist. If you do not renew them
on time, you will also have to replace your sprockets as I learned to my cost.
Check your cleats for wear. Nothing worse than being in a race and the
cleat comes out of the pedal.
Tyres deteriorate especially in winter
and with use on turbo trainers, so check them out before the season begins.
Equipment For
Sale
The club purchased a digital camera two
years ago. We do not require it now, so it is a bargain to any member. It is a
FugifilmA203 model. It has 2 million pixels quality, Zoom,1.5’’ LCD monitor,
movie, internet conferencing, and Universal Serial Bus.
£40 to a good home. Contact Graham on
01358 721599.
