25 Mile Time Trial at Garlogie on 22 April 2006 - Easter Bunny

Ythan had 4 riders take the start at Garlogie for the Spring Bunny 25. Bill Dallas and Fiona Duncan were non-starters as they were both suffering ill-health, Bill probably feeling the effects of his heroics from the previous 7 days racing. (Russ Craig, the younger man, obviously recovered better and was raring to go).

Ian Adams was first away, riding his first 25, battling a gusty head/crosswind on the outward leg. He had tri-bars on his trusty steed for the first time too. He must have fed his mount an extra sugar lump as he posted a very creditable 1.10.39 and may have given the handicap prize a scare had he not been allocated one considerably shorter than ‘Fingers’ Craig the handicap smash and grab exponent! Ian required some medical attention after he finished, although the Ythan medical crew had never come across ‘lock buttock’ before and could provide only minimal relief (laughing and pointing, mainly).

Andy Duncan was away next and he suffered badly on the fixed wheel on the ‘draggy’ and blustery course. He had a rather slow outward leg and nearly came a-cropper as a fox ran out in front of him, then proceeded to mock him by running faster than he could cycle for some distance! However Andy plugged away with the single gear to finish with a 1.12.59.

Carol Middleton had some technical difficulties prior to the start trying to get her computer to work, selecting which scarf to wear and then incurring the wrath of the local residents with the noise from her Chinook helicopter (turbo trainer). Carol posted a 1.19.16 which she was a little disappointed with as it placed her 2nd female behind Laura Sinclair from Deeside.

Russ ‘his handicap must be a misprint’ Craig was last to go for Ythan and produced another excellent ride to post a 1.04.03. Which was enough to scoop 1st on Handicap. I’m confident Russ will do the decent thing and give his prize to charity, baring in mind his buddy Ian produced such a fine ride. I suggest the ‘Obese public servant’s new telly fund’ as a worthy recipient.
