20.06.2006
Massie Shield Ythan 25 mile TT Yvonne Davidson, Paul Winter and Colin
Allanach set off amongst the early starters and were first to be caught up in
the showers of rain which caught most riders at some point or another. They all battled away in the difficult
conditions, Yvonne finishing with 1.33.39, Paul with 1.14.32 and Colin with
1.15.42. Well done to them for supporting this event and I’m sure they
‘enjoyed’ it. Bill Dallas was next, followed not very
closely by Fiona Duncan and Russ Craig. Bill put in a good ride, finishing with
a 1.01.10, not bad for someone who had prepared by doing the Highland Cross a
few days before. He is still wearing a helmet which looks a bit like a ‘Beatle
wig’ from a distance, what’s next? Winkle-picker cycling shoes? Fiona Duncan struggled to turn over her
big gears, partly due to her dead-leg with accompanying rainbow bruising and her
lack of bike time this season. (we had to point out which part she sat on and
where her hands were meant to go – but that’s another story!) Fiona posted
1.18.11. Russ Craig was away next and seemed to be saving himself for the Ythan
Road Race on Saturday, posting 1.03.25. Carol Middleton and Caroline Runcie made
up the rest of the Ythan women’s team and both rode well. Carol spent much of
the race calculating the distance between herself and Lindsay Goldbeck, who
started 2 minutes behind. In the end it was 45 seconds which separated them and
Carol finished with 1.12.20, good enough for second female and coupled with
Caroline’s fine 1.15.14 enough to win the women’s team prize for Ythan CC,
well done ladies. Steve Argo and Dave Harrison completed
the Ythan line up. Steve decided to don full winter survival gear including full
finger gloves and a muff (I think that’s what it’s called?!) around his
helmet – WUSS! Anyway he posted an astonishing 1.00.50, considering the
conditions and being weighed down with all that gore-tex and fleece material.
Dave Harrison managed to tune up his Gibson Flying V bike well enough to
register 1.14.02. Despite the poor weather it was a good
event with plenty of entries and some good performances, particularly Sean
Monaghan who won the event with a fine 59.04 and his Tri-Changing Gear men’s
team won the Massie Shield along with Steve McIntosh and Gilbert Runcie who also
posted excellent times. RESULTS 1st S. Monaghan (TCG) 59.04 2nd C. Duncan (TCG) 59.23 3rd S. McIntosh (TCG) 59.50 4th G. Runcie (TCG) 1.00.23 5th N. Skene (GCRT) 1.00.30 6th P. Allan (C21) 1.00.36 7th
