Race report from 10 Mile TT at Musselburgh, 19 April 2005 My new game is counting the amount of different ways to pronounce "Ythan", current favourites being Hethan, Yethan and Yiten. Normally followed by "Where the hell are you from". I arrived to a perfect evening, sunshine and hardly any wind, and poceeded to drive the course which is fairly flat but has a roundabout about midway on the way out and another for the turn at the 5 mile mark. Initially I doubted whether it would be run as there were road works about a mile out but some quick hole filling by the Cooncil meant they were clear before the off. There were about 35 starters and from the handicaps on the start sheet you could tell there would be a few flyers...Resigning myself to yet another night without points I decided to just go fo it. I was away number 8 and soon had my minute man in my sight. The course was fast but uneven, a good surface would make a big difference, but I got to the turn in about 12 minutes and hadn't been slowed by either roundabout. The route back seemed a bit easier but the occasional pot hole broke the rythm. A final push to the line got me in with a time of 23:37, it was great to be under 24 for the second time in a week but you get a bit greedy on flat courses and always look for a PB. It was a enjoyable night which saw me take the Vets first prize although this was only because the fastest Vet took overall second. I took 8th overall. 1st Martin Wiliamson - 22:34 (City of Edinburgh) 2nd Calum Ritche - 22:38 (Musselburgh) 3rd Paul Black - Sub 23, missed the seconds (Bicycle Works) Race Report by Bill Dallas |
