Ythan CC Road Race 2006 - 54 miles - 24 June 2006

Conditions started well for the 39 riders entered for the event, with participants from East, West and North of Scotland.  Three no-shows left 36 riders heading East out of Ellon, from the Meadows to the start at Kinharrachie.  The three Ythan riders showed up at the front of the group and Ross Craig made his customary breakaway with Ian Quinn from Glasgow Ivy CC for a long period.  Heavy rain through the middle period of the race did nothing to deter the riders in the three and half laps of the 15 mile circuit.

The riders were working harder than in previous years, resulting in a strung out line of cyclists in the last two circuits and approaching the finish line to the south of Methlick there were six at the front with a larger group directly behind.

Young Peter Ettles of Pedal Power RT crossed the line first with Martin Knox of Glasgow Couriers, then Raymond Reidy of Leslie Bike Shop following.  The first Ythan rider was Bill Dallas followed closely by Steve Agro.  Ross Craig, tired from his attacking was at the rear of the group, but pleased with his efforts.

Many thanks go to Jack Grant for his tireless work in organising this event and all the helpers in cars and as marshalls, timekeepers, etc.  Special thanks to everyone who provided the very welcome spread at the Meadows after the race, the riders were very grateful for all the food and drink (non alcoholic of course).
