'Nyewood Knox'
Sunday 4 November 2007
St Wilfrid's Church, Bognor Regis
|
 |
Pupils from Nyewood CE
Junior School were singing with the town’s concert band months of hard
work and preparation.
The school performance
club took centre stage to perform songs from well-known musicals such as
the Lion King and Oliver, with the rare treat of performing with a live
band in the form of the Bognor Regis Concert Band. |
|
The concert at St
Wilfrid’s Church, was to raise funds to pay for the
recently installed security fencing around the school, including
controlled access gates. As Nyewood is a church-aided school, fundraising
is needed to help pay for these measures.
Jane Wells, Head teacher
of Nyewood CE Junior School said: “The pupils have worked extremely hard,
rehearsing the songs, practising the dance routines and the hand bells. To
have the chance to perform with the Bognor Regis Concert Band is also a
great opportunity. It was a fantastic afternoon and the children hope to
repeat the event!” |

Howard Burchfield, Music
Director of Bognor Regis Concert Band said: “We were naturally delighted
to have been asked to support this fundraising concert. It is one of the
reasons why we are here, we are performing our role as a true community
band in every sense of the word. It is hard enough for an adult choir to
perform with a live band, so for the choir at Nyewood Juniors to take on
this challenge filled me with admiration and respect, not only for the
pupils but also the staff, so that the concert was a great
occasion for all involved.” |
The majority of the
concert saw the pupils singing and dancing to songs from the musicals,
before getting the opportunity to take their seats and join in with the
singing and flag waving while the band played a selection of music from
the Proms.
With
the support from the school’s PSA and members of St Wilfrid’s church, and
with the proceeds from the interval refreshments and a raffle, more than
£1,000 was raised. |
