since 1975 and currently has two
fields for outdoor flying and facilities in
the Community Centre for indoor
flying, both free flight and radio
controlled.
The website has recently been completely rebuilt using the Xara Web
Designer software and now has much improved navigation features as well
as the ability to display text and graphics in a more flexible way.
Photograph and video galleries make use of the Youtube and Flickr sites
respectively and these have proved popular on the original club website

(December 2009 - confession time!)
.
safe flying,
Brian Slater.
It’s confession time! I have a long and well established reputation as not being a great fan of
hel****ers. Or, not to beat around the bush, actually one who, in the past has actively campaigned against
them. They are noisy (well the infernal combustion variety are), hog the
take off and landing area (there was a time when they weren’t allowed
anywhere near the fixed wing flightline) and they are generally frightening
and potentially dangerous with those whirling blades and seemingly
random flight patterns.
Well, what should happen on Christmas Day? My daughter decides
that I would love a hel****ter for my Christmas present. One of the small
electric indoor/outdoor (toys), this one is the Bladez 3d, a picture of which
is shown. So far I have tried it out in the bedroom (nice soft landing area)
and with the curtains drawn (not just to stop the neighbours seeing what I
get up to), some protection from striking the walls. Occasionally it hovers
quite successfully but I get the distinct impression that it has a mind of it’s own and wanders off at random
at the least opportunity. Maybe a bit more space would help, I might even go to one of the Club indoor
meetings (though I suspect that I’ll be greeted with howls of derision, not altogether undeserved).
I willl reserve judgement on these strange machines which so far I am still unable to see what the
attraction is in flying them. I prefer flying someting at great height and distance, my failing eyesight
permitting, while these hel*****ters must be flown at not much more than arms length. Hence the
crowding of the take off and landing areas. If some of you have anything kind you would like to say
regarding helicopters (oops there I’ve said it!) please feel free to let me know via club email
