What a place to sit and watch the world go by - actually you mainly see birds go by. A frequent visitor in spring is the greater spotted woodpecker. For a different type of tea try the 'Scottish' blend, from the tea-fields of Scotland! The chocolate tiffin and the carrot cake is rather good. Seating inside and outside, also picnic tables and children's outside play area. Don't forget your smoked goodies as presents from the smokery shop. There is also a small smokery exhibition where you can see the work going on during weekdays.

10 minutes walk. Out of our back gate, 50 yards take the gate on the left. Cross this field diagonally, go across the swing bridge, (it is perfectly safe, but feels very exposed) then straight through the next field and head for the wooden building.

Open for morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea. All the fare is home-made and delicious. Try the cinnamon fruit scones and see if you have any fingers left.

20 minute walk. From Bonawe House walk to the village centre, over the railway, it is on your left.

Ardanasaig Hotel

Rather a grand place, but you can drink tea or coffee here at normal prices. Sit by the fire, look over Loch Awe, or just get married here. For the gents only, check out the wallpaper in the little boys room.

30 minutes by car. From Taynuilt turn left onto the A85. After 500 yards turn right signed to Kilchrenan. At Kilchrenan turn left and the hotel is at the end of the road.

Crunachy Tearoom

Serves fried breakfasts, coffee, lunch, teas and evening meals with take-aways available (including curries).

5 minutes by car. From Taynuilt turn left onto the A85 towards Crianlarich, through Bridge of Awe and on your right by the petrol station and caravan site.

Kerrera Teahouse

For the connoisseur and determined. Two mile walk after a five minute ferry ride. Well worth it. Locally grown produce, all vegetarian, seating outside only, but they hope to build some inside for summer 2000. Don't forget to tell the Delap's you're staying at Bonawe!

30 minutes by car, then five minutes by boat, then 45 minutes walk. From Taynuilt turn right onto the A85 to Oban. Take the left turn at the first roundabout. Take the second exit at the next roundabout, which is the road left of the Tourist Office. Follow this straight on, until you come to the ferry terminal (this is a car park and open boat). Call the boat by turning the board round (runs between 9 am and 12.30 and 14.00 to 17.00 during the summer). At the other end take the left track after the phone booth. Follow round along the sea shore, then up and back down a hill. You can't miss it!

The Treeshop

A nice shop with lots of wooden crafts and toys  and a garden centre.  There's a short walk up hill to their huge treehouse.  The tea shop serves homemade food, but from take away crockery.

3/4 hour by car.  From Taynuilt take the A85 towards Crianlarich.  Turn right to Inverary after Lochawe Village.  Turn right towards Glasgow in Inverary.  The Treeshop is next to the Loch Fyne Oysterbar on the left after a few miles.

Crafts and Things Tearoom - Glencoe

Stunning picture window views up Glencoe.  All home (wholesome) baking and meals, and a craft shop in front of it, and a gallery upstairs (mainly prints).  Toys for children.

1 hour by car.  From Taynuilt head towards Oban on the A 85.  After 7 miles turn left signed to Fort William, just after you've gone under the big bridge.  This now takes you over the single track bridge.  Go along for 30 km, until you get to a roundabout.  Turning right would take you to Fort William over the big Ballachulish Bridge.  Turn left towards Glen Coe.  After a few miles, just before Glen Coe there are a few houses on the right on a parallel road.  Take this right turn, signed 'Tigh Phuirt' (it is actually the second sign for tigh-phuirt, but the first signpost will get you there as well), and the tea room is the first building.

Ardfern Tearoom and craft shop

This is a women's co-operative, where Princess Anne drops in regularly to buy paintings.  Very small, very sweet.

1 hour by car.  From Tyanuilt go towards Oban on the A85.  Drive all the way through Oban, and head south, past Kilmelfort, Arduaine Gardens, and Croab Haven.  Take the next right turn to Ardfern, and the tearoom is on the right in the centre of the village, opposite the pub.  Also lovely walks along the beach to the headland.

Kilmartin Tearoom

Part of a history experience, with a museum, bookshop, and lots of standing stones and old castles in the area.  The tearoom has lovely wholefood baking, with a green oak conservatory.

1 hour by car.  From Tyanuilt go towards Oban on the A85.  Drive all the way through Oban, and head south, past Kilmelfort, Arduaine Gardens, Croab Haven and Ardfern.  The visitors Centre is in the middle of Kilmartin, on the right hand side of the main road (again opposite the pub!).
