HOME Hemel Hempstead Station

When Hemel Hempstead Station was opened in 1837 it was called Boxmoor Station for the simple reason that it is in Boxmoor and not Hemel Hempstead. It was renamed Boxmoor and Hempstead in 1912; Boxmoor again in 1924; Hemel Hempstead and Boxmoor in 1930 and finally Hemel Hempstead in 1963. Although the London and Birmingham Railway did not start running trains to Birmingham until 1838 a service started between London Euston and Boxmoor in 1837.

The original Hemel Hempstead Station was in the centre of Hemel Hempstead. It opened in 1877 and trains ran from there to Harpenden. It was closed in the 1950's.
