These exchanges do not normally require any hosting by, or cost to, a Rotary Club and can vary from several days to several weeks. They do not normally include an academic programme and usually takes place in school holidays. Exchanges with northern hemisphere countries are quite often back to back and those with southern hemisphere are timed to coincide with the long summer school holiday around Christmas.

Rotary Clubs having interviewed and ascertained the suitability of the student and his or her family to take part in the programme provide support and guidance during the exchange. Students are responsible for the costs of travel and for insurance
Many European country offers a number of special tours every year in which young people can join others of similar age and learn more of that country's way of life, traditions and culture. These usually take the form of one week living with a Rotarian's family in their home and one week in a youth hostel or activity centre. Specific ages in the 16-22 years range are usually specified in the offers, which can come from anywhere in the world, but mostly from Europe
Applicants (or normally their parents) pay the return fares, insurance cover and pocket money - all other expenses are provided by the overseas Rotarians
A study year abroad for students between the ages of 15 and 19.
The student lives with two or more Rotarian or Rotary approved families and attends school in the host country. The student is responsible for the cost of travel to and from the host country, insurance, clothing and incidental expenses. The host Rotary Club provides a modest monthly allowance and will also pay any tuition fees for academic programmes.
