Because of our association with Filippo Berio Olive Oil and the Fifteen Restaurant (founded by Jamie Oliver), the prizes at next year's (the 2008) final have been significantly upgraded. The winner will receive the RIBI Trophy (and a replica to keep) plus £250. In addition the winner will receive a day's experience at the Fifteen Restaurant in London plus a trip to Tuscany for the winner (plus a parent/guardian) to witness the olive harvest and associated olive oil tasting festival.
BUT WHY "ROTARY YOUNG CHEF"?
Rotary and our associates
believe that cooking a healthy meal is an important life
skill.
Rotary Young Chef aims to encourage young people to:
- Develop cookery skills
- Develop food presentation skills
- Consider Healthy Eating options
- Prove their organisational and planning skills
- Prove their ability to cope in a demanding situation
Rotatry Young Chef 2008 (in association with Filippo Berio Olive Oil) is a competition for students aged 17 and under at 31st August 2007. It is open to all students not just those destined to make a career in the hospitality and catering industry.
The competition generally begins with a Rotary Club organising a competition at its local school or college. The emphasis generally being on the preparation of a 2 course healthy meal as economically as possible.
The winners of the Club competition progress to a District Competion, then via a Regional Competition to the RIBI Final of Rotary Young Chef. At the Final the students will be asked to cook a 3 course healthy meal for two people costing no more than £14 (€21). The final will be held at the prestigious venue of Westminster Kingsway College where many well-known chefs trained. It will take place in April 2008 (date to be confirmed).
The Regional Rounds should be completed by 31st March 2008. Therefore all District competitions will need to be finished well ahead of this date. It is also advisable that all Club competitions be completed before Christmas 2007
The Regions are shown on the map at the foot of this page.
Rotarians are reminded that they can find further details of Rotary Young Chef in the “Opportunities to Serve” Project Library (also downloadable from elsewhere in this site).
To the left of this screen you are able to access to two further documents, “A Guidance to Clubs” giving Rotary Clubs guidance in establishing their own competition with their local school(s) and the formal “Rules for RIBI Young Chef 2007” which will apply to the Regional Rounds and the RIBI Final.
