Since then the Youth Week has brought together young men from around the world, aged between 16 and 21, for a week of sporting and cultural activities thereby enhancing the fourth aspect of Rotary
The International Youth Week Committee invited up to 36 young men from overseas and up to 36 young men from our two districts to take part in the International Youth Week programme each year. The overseas students were looked after for the three weeks they are in the U.K. and those from our District take part in the event during the third week which was held at the Warwickshire College, Morton Morrell
For overseas participants the total period of stay in England was three weeks commencing in 2002 on Saturday 29th June. During the first two weeks these young men were hosted in homes of Rotarians whilst the third week was spent in the company of an equal number of young men from the districts of 1060 and 1210 at the Warwickshire College. The activities of this week were staffed by experienced Rotarians and qualified Youth Workers who volunteered their professional services
The Warwickshire College with its 244 hectare estate is located at the village of Moreton Morrell, 8 miles equidistant from Leamington Spa, Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon, in beautiful rural countryside. Moreton Hall was built in the early part of this century by Charles T. Garland, an American whose interests lay in horses, real tennis and trees The Warwickshire Countryside from the steps of Morton Hall |

Those
participating in the International Youth Week were
accommodated in houses, each having eight single
bedrooms, with its own wash hand basin. Toilet, bathing
and shower facilities were on a shared basis. There are
purpose built facilities for a variety of sports,
including football; hockey; badminton; tennis; volley-ball;
basket-ball and swimming. The college further includes a
sports hall, areas for relaxation, an outdoor swimming
pool and attractive walks and Gardens. Students assemble outside their accommodation for the morning briefing |
All meals were taken in the cafeteria where the college provided excellent catering and a choice of menu, including vegetarian dishes. All the students needed to provide was a small amount of spending money
Those attending the Youth Week were divided into four groups each led by a Junior Leader who had normally attended the previous year. An experienced Rotarian was attached to each group for guidance
