The 1998 Tournament Schedule
May Open TournamentMay 2nd - 4th. This event is open to both members of other clubs as well as our own club members. There are various categories: ladies' and men's singles, ladies' and men's doubles, mixed doubles, and a "plate event" for those who lose in the first round of the singles. The tournament has several major sponsors who provide some excellent prizes. Refreshments, lunches and teas will be available for both players and spectators. Annual Senior Club TournamentJune 1st -
July 11th. The Annual Club Tournament is open to Senior
members of the Club of all playing abilities. It is hoped that
everyone will The singles event, for both men and ladies, will have a dual incentive for our Yellow, Green and Brown rated players. For they will be competing for the Newport Cup as well as the regular Club Tournament trophies. The Newport Cup, begins 11th May, and is played to semi-final stage before the main tournament begins. The semi-finalists enter the main tournament draw as normal. The semi-finals for the Newport Cup will be played during the following weeks. The finals will be played on Club Finals Day, on JULY 11th. The prizes and trophies for the Club Tournament, (including the Newport Cup), will be presented at the end of the finals, that afternoon. Annual Junior Club TournamentJune 1st - July 11th. The Annual Junior Club Tournament is open to Junior members of the Club of all playing abilities. The tournament covers singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Entry forms will be available in the clubhouse. Ratings TournamentJuly 19th - 26th.One in a series of LTA sponsored singles tournaments, held all over the country. All results count towards a players National Rating. Anyone can gain an official LTA ranking by joining the LTA Rating Scheme no matter what their standard. Only players with a National Rating are eligible to enter this singles event, for players are drawn initially against other players with a similar rating. Pick up an entry form from the clubhouse or speak to the Club Coach to find out more. Annual Senior Handicap TournamentApril 13th - June 6th. This tournament is open to all Senior members of the Club, and is designed to make every match as even as possible. Entry forms will be available when paying your annual subscription, and additional forms will be placed in the clubhouse. For the doubles events the partners are drawn and the handicaps allocated by the Tournament Committee. The singles events will largely be handicapped according to a player's colour rating, any variation is at the discretion of the Committee. The Tournament prizes will be presented on Finals Day (May 16th).
American TournamentsA series of enjoyable social doubles tournaments involving a 'roving partner' system organized by the Club Coach to allow every player to enjoy and compete in at a similar level. You do not need a partner to join in, nor do you need to book in advance, just turn up on the day and register with the Club Coach at 1.45 p.m.. All courts are used for these events, times are from 2 - 5 p.m. New balls are used and there are prizes for the winners. The organizational arrangements are identical with those of the American Tournaments. The main difference is the format which is either men's or ladies' doubles where one keeps the same partner throughout the event. You do not need to bring a partner with you. Colour Ratings TournamentOrganized by the Club Coach, this popular tournament (singles, doubles & mixed) is run during September & October. Competition is between players of the same colour rating, and all players are guaranteed at least two matches. The Kathy Hall CupJuly 13th - September 5th.This is a ladies' doubles event where previous winning combinations are not allowed to play together. The format is a simple knockout, each round played as the best of three sets. The Geoffrey Richardson CupJuly 13th - September 5th.An annual mixed doubles event where previous winning combinations may not play together. The competition is a simple knockout, each round played as the best of three sets. The S.N.E.C.L.T.L(eague) TournamentSeptember 13th - 19th. The final rounds of the NE Cheshire League Tennis Tournament will again be held at Bramhall Lane this year. The finals are scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday 19th. The League have been granted the use of up to five courts during the week to complete the tournament. Entry forms are available in the League Handbook, although entry is not restricted to players who play in the League matches. Ladies Friendly MatchesA ladies friendly morning against a local Tennis Club is usually held on the first Thursday of every month. Meeting at 9.45 a.m., play commences at 10 a.m., with a social gathering afterwards. Daytime DoublesThese are a series of events organized on midweek mornings by the Club Coach on a monthly basis.
