THE CAR CONUNDRUM

A man is pushing a car along (there's no petrol in it, by the way). He's been pushing it for the past two hours. He stops outside a row of four houses. He doesn't enter any house, and speaks to no-one - yet he knows he's just lost all his cash money (£1,687) - and he knows his ten-year-old daughter is to blame. How does he know?
