PSALM
117
On September 3rd 1651, Oliver Cromwell defeated the Scots army raised in support of Charles II at the battle of Dunbar. Traditionally after the battle came the rout, as one side chased the other from the field grabbing what possessions it could. However Cromwell, being a devout Puritan, made his soldiers stop first for a psalm from the Good Book. How religious - and what an excellent choice. Here is the psalm in full from the King James Bible.
Psalm 117
1 O Praise the LORD, all ye nations; praise him all ye people.
2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.
