Physical Education In-Service Training

IMPROVING CLASSROOM PRACTICE

I can help your school, university, college or nursery improve its classroom practice by:

• providing ideas, activities and strategies for skill development;
• developing teacher knowledge and understanding;
• showing strategies and approaches for the development of classroom teaching;
• identifying a progressive and challenging curriculum.

Classroom practice will improve if you have:

• a good knowledge and understanding of the subject matter to be taught;
• knowledge and experience of a range of organisational strategies and teaching techniques;
• appropriate expectations of all the children in relation to what is taught;

PRACTICAL WORKSHOPS - AREAS OF ACTIVITY

• Conducting a curriculum audit, review and evaluation of the Physical Education within your school;

EDUCATION CONSULTANCY

OFSTED/INSPECTION ADVICE

As a trained Ofsted inspector I am able to offer schools:

• School/Departmental/Subject Review/Audit;
• Advice - on the Framework for the Inspection of Schools and the Quality Development of all aspects of school life;
• Support - for teachers to encourage, support and enhance the quality of their teaching - raising morale and self esteem;

RESOURCE AUDIT

To effectively implement your Physical Education curriculum you will need to ensure your equipment and apparatus is appropriate and matches your scheme of work.

• I will provide you with:
• an assessment of your existing apparatus;
• savings in the region of 10% off catalogue prices.
• priorities for purchasing;
• a list of the recommended equipment;
• a priority order with reference numbers;
• individual costs together with a running total.

(This is a half day service and should be combined with another service, i.e. co-ordinator support)

LUNCH TIME SUPERVISOR ASSISTANT'S (LSA'S) SUPPORT

Ask for details of support involving on-site training over an extended lunch-time or day closure with LSA's, co-ordinator and whole staff considering:

• Playground activities:
• encouraging, enhancing and supporting play;
• activity ideas;
• space, resources, playground markings;
• Behaviour management:
• developing positive relationships;
• awareness of rewards and sanctions;
• deal with confrontations effectively;

Effective Use of the School Environment.

A support programme may comprise of the following:

• Co-ordinator support (1.5 hours)
• Lunch Time Supervisors - 3 hours (10.30 - 1.30)
• Co-ordinator support (1.5 hours)
• Whole staff - twilight staff meeting (1 hour)

The programme will consider play and look at:

• Management - To identify organisational and management strategies to provide safe, effective use of the environment during breaks and lunch times, including:
• School Behaviour Policy
• Equal opportunities
• Safety and accident procedure
• Staff - To identify good practice in the use of the environment
• The potential of the school grounds
• Activities to achieve the full potential of the environment
• Lunch Time Supervisors - Their role when working with the children:
