| Just for fun, and to help spend all the money my
employer gives me, I fly light aeroplanes. I gained my
PPL at the St. George Flying Club at Teesside
airport. I live in Derby so I am also a member of the East Staffs Flying Club at Tatenhill and the East Midlands Flying School at East Midlands Airport. I learnt in a Cessna 152 but progressed to a Piper Warrior later. The Warrior has the advantage of carrying four people and has more room. |

A few years ago I started crewing for a hot air
balloon pilot. The reward for my labour was a flight in
his balloon. It was so different from flying aeroplanes
that I decided to work for my PPL(balloons). I bought this balloon just because it seemed like a good deal. I have since discovered woodworm in the basket but that's fixed now. I am also the secretary of the Nottingham Hot Air Balloon Club. You can see pictures of the latest balloon meets I attended at HAREWOOD HOUSE and CHATSWORTH HOUSE |
| By way of a low-cost hobby,
I ring church bells. We don't ring tunes. What we do is
method ringing. It is a very English pastime. It involves
learning a pattern off by heart and then all the ringers
have to make the bells ring in that pattern. This picture shows some of the bells at St Paul's Cathedral. The picture is not upside down, the bells are. That's how they stand at rest. When the ringer pulls the rope, the bell comes off 'the balance' and turns all the way round. The clapper strikes the bell just before it comes to rest at the top again.
