Died 11 May 1984, Peakhurst
Followed his father to Australia on the Steamer Ballarat , arriving 2August 1913.
Enlisted with the Australian Imperial Expeditionary Force 27 May 1915and served with the 1st Machine Gun Battalion in France. Discharged 27 September 1919.
He married Nellie May Laidler, a widow who had lost her husband in the Great War , 14 Feb 1920. The wedding was celebrated at St. Aygustine's Church, Bulli, and was witnessed by the younger brother Karl, and Nellie May's married sister Ann Cockburn.

Samuel was a Sergeant in the 2nd Battalion Notts & Derbyshire Regiment, The Sherwood Foresters; an amalgamation of the 45th Regiment of Foot (Nottinghamshire) and the 95th Regiment (Derbyshire). The 2nd Battalion was part of the B.E.F. that landed in France in September 1914. It's first major battle was at Neuve Chapelle where it suffered 25% casualties.

Emigrated to Australia in 1912, followed by Cyril Charles in 1913, and his wife Rosanna with the younger children Karl Roger, and Reginald in 1914. He continued his trade as a Boot Maker at Granville, a suburb to the south west of Sydney. Samuels wife died in 1927, and duringthe years of the Depression 1929-1933 Samuel spent some time living with his son Charles at Banksia, New South Wales, and then with his sonReginald, who was a Teacher at the outback town of Warialda (aboriginal for "Wild Honey") This was Samuel's final resting place, and he died there on 23 July 1934, aged 71 years.
