Who are we?

The Dartford & Gravesend Building Preservation Trust is a revolving fund building preservation trust set up to help preserve and protect our local architectural heritage. The Trust has been formed in response to the large number of historic and listed buildings in our area that are at risk having been abandoned and left derelict.

The sad fact is, that although legislation exists to protect these buildings, they are still left to decay until they either fall down or are demolished so that their sites can be radically redeveloped. Unless somebody comes up with a viable plan for their rescue, these buildings have no hope. This is where the Dartford & Gravesend Building Preservation Trust would step in.

The Trust is a real alternative to just talk. We will finance and co-ordinate restoration works by raising funds from various sources. As a charitable trust we are eligible for various grants and low interest loans from the Architectural Heritage Fund.

We can work alongside councils, taking on the responsibility for restoring buildings acquired by compulsory purchase orders after repair notices issued by the councils have failed.

We will also be actively looking for sponsorship and appealing for public donations, all of which we can pool together to pay for the restoration of our threatened heritage.

Our mission

"To preserve and protect our national heritage in the boroughs of Dartford and Gravesham, by engaging in restoration works and lobbying owners & local councils to ensure buildings of historic importance get the protection they deserve."
