Broads Museum

The Museum was first established here in 1976 and has grown over the years into the largest in the area. Some sections are not comparable to anywhere else in the U.K., notably the Tobacco Museum which has achieved national importance. 

The collections were started by Marian and Chris Nunn in 1959, who then went on to found the museum in 1976, sadly Marian died in 1994. The museum is now run by Chris Nunn and Pam who joined in 1996, it is still expanding with new areas and displays being added each winter. 

Over the years, we have striven to maintain our complete independence and now are one of the very few private museums of this size in the country.

• DOMESTIC - a superb assemblage of kitchen utensils including raisin stoners, marmalade cutters, mincers,  jelly and pie moulds and some wonderful ingenious peach and apple peelers plus  old wash tubs, soaps and starch, tea caddies and trivets.
   

• CAMERAS - an area with some interesting examples of photographic image makers, film and associated apparatus. 
   

• RAZORS and SHAVING - shaving soaps, mechanical or dry razors, blades and wrappers and more than 100 different devices for the sharpening of razor blades.
   

• BANKNOTES - white fivers and twenties and the famous John Bradbury Treasury notes.
   

• LEATHER TRADES - boots and shoes of all descriptions from the early 19th century to the 1960s - plus traditional cobblers' tools and equipment. 
   

• TRADE TRICYCLES - Dog Catcher, Knife Grinder, Milk and Baker delivery and "Stop me and buy one" ice cream tricycles. 
   

• VETERINARY and ANIMAL - an amazing selection of animal medicines dating back to the early 1900s. A wide ranging display of veterinary instruments and animal treatments.
   

• MARSH and WATER - a superb example of a punt gun, 9ft. long, with ditching, drainage, hedging and thatching implements.
   

• TRAPS and TAXIDERMY - man traps (illegal from 1827), rare dog spears, spring alarm guns, eel gleaves, heron trap and over 100 other English traps. Also a display of birds eggs and taxidermy specimens.
   

• COOPERS - a vast array of coopers' tools featuring a photographic record of the last apprentice at Guinness brewery, Park Royal.
