Extracts from Parish Records - Danby and Glaisdale

(This page was last modified on 26th April 2000)

Abbreviations: F=Funeral, M=Marriage, X=Christening/Baptism, D=Danby, G=Glaisdale

These extracts are mainly from the transcript by the Yorkshire Parish Record Society Vol. XL111. Coverage is generally from 1585 to 1812. The Baptisms from 1728 to 1733 are missing. Where Geo Hoggarth or Nic. Hoggarth were apparently only acting as witnesses the entry has been ignored.
At the end are some records taken from the microfilm of the parish records held at Northallerton. These latter extracts are by no means complete.

About the 12th March 1775 died Wm. Featherstone the old parish Clerk. A mighty bustle has been made in the Parish some time before his Decease, who should succeed him. Some said the right of Nomination belonged to the Minr., some to the Parish, and one Thos. Dove who has querk'd the old man out of his Licence, & got into his place, said it belonged to him. However he proved mistaken and dissappointed also. For I gave the nominatn to Geo. Hoggart and he was immediately licensed thereon the other losing his place.
R. Greenwood, Minr.
