Reasons to be cheerful - Part Two
On the one hand - 2,000 DVDs from every major studio. In America.
On the other hand - 200 DVDs from around half the major studios. In Europe.
Case dismissed, M'lud.
Not... so... hasty... my friends. For those with a UK machine, there are many good reasons to love region 2...
1. Every single widescreen movie released so far has been anamorphic, and the prospects look good for the future. If you watch an American Disney movie on a widescreen telly, you'll find that they look decidedly naff. Not so with region 2. The reason for the discrepancy? In America, no-one has widescreen tellys, so the studios view those who moan about the "enhancing for widescreen TVs" issue as whining techieheads. However, they know that a huge number of European DVD owners have widescreen sets, and with TV throughout the continent going 16:9, the ratio can only increase. Here, it matters, and they know it.
Ditto for Fox and Paramount in the future? Only time will tell, but my guess is yes...
2. You can rent them down the local video shop! 63 stores and rising, courtesy of Blockbuster and Choices. Definitely not to be sneezed at.
3. When they don't work, you can just take 'em back.
4. Classic Disney animation on the way early next year! No such luck with region 1...
5. All the other studios are on their way. Granted they're taking their time, but they'll get there eventually, believe me.
6. What more do you want?! Rome wasn't built in a day...
