Two grand discs, but two less than grand films - Velvet Goldmine and, from the archives, Man In the Iron Mask.

Finally Buena Vista join the rest of the world with dual layer, but why with Snake Eyes?!

Where are we now with regional coding?

UK cinema release dates for The Thomas Crown Affair and the new 007 film, The World is Not Enough, plus many more

Having supplied a link to a comprehensive release schedule, that site has now gone away. Ah well. While I come up with a replacement, here's a stupendous peek at Universal and Columbia release plans until March 2000!

More contributions to the pricing war - thanks to all who have written, whether they have been posted or not. Thanks too for all your Total DVD suggestions.

A first (I think) - an in depth look at the next essential region 2 purchase. The best straight action flick since Die Hard, meet The Negotiator, released in the UK on June 14th

Some new region 2 reviews (with a slightly improved look) - Dead Poets Society, Avengers, Species II, A Perfect Murder, Trainspotting, In the Line of Fire, Species, U-Turn, Lethal Weapon 4, Godzilla, Brief Encounter, The Devil's Own, Phenomenon, Dave, Gattaca, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Beautiful Thing, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, City of Angels, The Ice Storm, Trainspotting, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, Armageddon, The Usual Suspects, (reissue) US Marshals, The People vs. Larry Flint, Das Boot: The Director's Cut, Spiceworld, Tomorrow Never Dies, GoldenEye, The Game, plus. The Fifth Element, Leon & The Mask (these three European imports), The Borrowers, As Good as it Gets, Brassed Off, Muriel's Wedding, Amadeus, Space Jam, The Lost Boys, The Rock, Contact, L.A. Confiidential - Special Edition, Martha, meet Daniel, Frank and Laurence & Thelma & Louise

A few more European updates - The Basketball Diaries, a dual layer Total Recall from Columbia, Misery, When Harry Met Sally, Total Recall, Dune, Cliffhanger anf Terminator 2 . Also some old classics - El Cid, Circus World, King of Kings, 55 Days in Peking and The Fall of the Roman Empire

- Movies, DVD & That is closing!!!! -

Yes folks, it's true, but shed not your tears. Firstly, the newsgathering operation is moving lock, stock and (two smoking) barrel(s) over to Home Cinema Choice Online, where I hope that the service I provided here can be improved upon - with the backing and contacts of an established magazine, you can be assured that the news will be both frequent and good stuff. But I fully intend to retain the independent edge - if something needs saying, it will be said, and rumours will still get published if there seems to be any substance to them (and will be duly flagged as rumour). Meanwhile, all the previous stories here will be permanently archived for the time being.

In a few short weeks, the disc reviews will be switched over to a new and improved DVD Plus. These will form part of a new service, unique on the web (I think) - EVERY disc available will have full details listed, not from information on the back of the box (which is unreliable and incomplete at best), but by having a real human being checking what is really on there. This should become THE essential resource for UK disc information on the web.

Other parts of the site - such as the FAQ - may well also find their way going to Home Cinema Choice Online, so no-one should lose out.

The reason behind the move is simply practical. For a while I have been running MovieUK.com and the uk dvd news for HHC Online, and contributing material to DVD Plus, and that's a lot of duplication. In addition, I have a full time job, while my magazine writing and TV / film script writing work is increasing rapidly. Oh, and our first baby is due in three weeks time! (All say ahhh now, and laugh at the sleepless nights). It has simply become impossible to do everything.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has written over the past year with support, news or suggestions - it really makes a huge difference. Please keep it all coming at HCC Online!

Thanks,

Guy Rowland
