The Big 52 quiz - Introduction
Even a workaholic film lover should be watching at least one movie a week, be it on TV, DVD, Laserdisc, VHS or even, gasp, at the cinema. In honour of this, Movies, DVD & That proudly presents a quiz that will be almost guaranteed to keep you and your family, friends and colleagues busy until Christmas - 52 quotes from 52 fabulous movies, one for each week of the year. And even though it's not the winning but the talking part that counts, some form of (as yet) unknown DVD prize awaits either the first one to get everything right. Or, if no-one gets it all right, the highest scoring entrant by January 1st, 1999.
But there's more than that - that would be too easy. The film from each given quote has some kind of a link to the next. Some are straightforward - two films that star Kevin Bacon, for example - whilst some are tenuous or, frankly, bizarre. Which two consecutive films have snow in common? Or rude choreography? You have 50 links to match up with 50 pairs of films.
This is all a pig to piece together, so my suggestion is this. First, print out the list and show it to anyone you know with a passing interest in film - you'll never do this alone. Second, fill in all those quotes you know. Third, pen in any highly probable links - Bill Forsyth has only directed a few films, so if you find two of his next to each other, you can be reasonably sure that that's the link. However, more than two pairs of movies were filmed in England, so this is a little harder to place. The links themselves, meanwhile, should also provide clues as to the possible films to look for as you go on.
