9 Burley Hall

Burley Hall was built in 1832. It was the third hall to occupy this site. Sir Richard Mannsel paid 'half a knights fee' for the Manor in 1279. Hugh de Babbington lived there in 1312.

John Pulleyn built the second hall in 1630. It was destroyed by fire in 1822.

Burley's Lords of the Manor over the ages have been members of the Middleton, Pulleyn, Wilson, Clapham, Horsfall, Crofton, Cresswell, Briggs and Dawson families. These Lords of the Manor exercised important functions e.g. the right to appoint clergy to Burley's church. They also had valuable sporting rights on Burley Moor.
