On of the easiest alterations you can achieve is to buy a pair of headrests the same as yours and slip them between the back shelf and back seat rest. Although they only sit there and provide no support, it still looks damn good.
I picked up mine form a scrap yard for a £1 each, and they were in imaculate condition, they finish the car off a treat. The Rear headrests may be a legal problem however, if they are not fixed in hthe correct place you could be cahrged if
the cause injury. As a result of this i just descided to leave them unfixed, they do not move and sit quite happily, so all is ok.
Rear headrests in place
Another non standard addition is the rear seatbelts. I was suprised that the ghia model did not come with them as standard but wasn't to fussed as they are easy enough to fit.
I got mine from a scrappy for £10, this included all the bolts and a lap belt (if you fit rear belts you can leagaly carry 3 passengers in the back, just notify your insurance company).
For instructions on fitting the seatbelts from a scrap yard click here.
Some cutitng of the trim is required when fitting the belts, but all the mounting points are there and the trim is all marked out for drilling an dcutting. God don't ford make it easy.
The finished result is a safer car, more passenger capacity and they even look good.
The rear belts can be seen here and it is possible to see the mounting point for the seat belt reel.
Recently i started adding lotsa chrome parts to my car, it all startet with my K&N filter. The first addition was a pair of chrome door handles off a granada, they are exactly the same size and fittings but
just look a hell of a lot better than black plastic. This will work on any mk2 and probably mk 1's and 3'
Sorry it was a bright day
I then added some wiper arm from a capri, Chrome of course. These are slightly shorter than the standard ones but its still safe enough to drive as enough water is removed, this could b aproblem if you are perticularly
tall though. This is a straight forward swap, just tack the arms off the fiesta make sure you oput the new ones back in the smae position and tighten properly. Then watch out on sunny days !!!.
Lovely chrome wipers, dont ya think?
I then started going a bit silly, i noticed a new arrival at my scrapyard, an old princess Herse, after a quick look inside my eyes fell on the scrumptios chrome mirrors on the doors. I fell in love and removed them instantly.
Mirrors and fittings a complete price of........£6, yes thats right not bad eh? Turns out that this was not the simplest transition ever, and i still need to do some work as there were holes left after fitting (oops) But they
look good all the same.
Took a while but well worth it
Whilst looking around the local scrap yard one sunny friday afternoon, I stumbled accross a Ford Cortina Ghia, i had a nose and foungd some attractive steel window winders that had been chromed, lovely. Simple swap for the old ones,
look better and feel nicer to use, simple :)
Quick n easy
Remember those Handles? well i went back to the granada I got them off and started having a closer look, and then noticed these lovely chrome sill guards witht he ford emblam in the middle, ten minuites later i was back with a battery
drill to drill out he rivits. They are not in great conditiona s they have seen 17 years of wear but at 50p each how could I refuse. They just fitted the sills on my car if u tuck it under the rubber. To fit just drill holes and put some pop rivits through the sill guard and sill, simple as.
Scratch guard in place
The last thing i added to my car cost me absolutly nothing, other than hard work. While out one night, I was parked up by this lane, after a while i started look out side and my eyes landed on something shiny, on closer inspection it turned out to be an astrali steering wheel, Leather and steel.
I was a tad shocked but very happy, after a quick trip down to halfords i got the appropriate boss (to fit my steering column) for around £10 made by mountry or something. It took a while to get it looking good, sanded the leather down and then used black boot polish on it (smells funny now) and just used silvo on the steel.
This i know is not the correct way to restore leather but hell does it look good :)
Not bad for free eh? And much nicer than standard ford
The wheel trims that came as standard were a bit borring, and as i could not afford alloys i descided i woul purchase some half descent looking trims.
I put these on and was quite pleased, however fiersta wheels are silver, and this spoilt the effect. To remedy this i took each wheel off, cleaned it,
then sprayed it black.
This made a big difference, and the car even looks like it has alloys form a distance! ( quite a distance )
The result can be seen in many pictures, but the best picture to se ethis on is the picture on the index page.
Another addition to my car is a green sunstrip on the windscreen, this fades from a slolid colour to clear, it was a bit of a bitch to fit, but it looks
good noe the less if you intend doing this be patient and try and get rid of ALL the bubbles
I always liked high brake lights, so after a quick trip down to spares world i picked up a high brake light (L.E.D Type) and fitted it to my window. As usual the sticky
pads prvided held it for a few hours then it fell off, so i used some windscreen bonding stuff from halfords to hold it securely. all the wiring is tucked away behing the trim and
the wiring is very simple, if u require hand with this please click here.
