Preamble

For this element you are required to describe: -

• types of programming environments
• features of program execution
• types of data and data structures
• the expressions and operators used in software production

• features of computer programs
• what is meant by program constructs

To achieve the evidence for the above you will be looking at 3 computer programs and identifying and describing examples of each of the above.

nb Each individual program will not necessarily contain all types of program structures, constructs, data & data structures or expressions & operators.
 

Task 1
 Ensure that you are using Internet Explorer and not Netscape.  Go to the Sue's home page for Unit 6 http://www.btinternet.com/~c.j.duley/  and select the link to VbScript sample. on-line quotation form

 Here you will find a small program  that produces an on-line quotation form for computer equipment.  On the page is a series of questions and tasks for you to complete.  Carry out the tasks and answer the questions.  Your findings are to be presented as part of your assignment evidence.

Task 2
 On the student “joint” drive, in a folder called Unit 6, you will find a program called Sums. You should load the appropriate programming environment and then load and run the program.  Run it several times with different data to find out what the program does.

 In a short report, describe the programming language used, the method of translation, the program structure and what the program does.
 

• Annotate (add comments to) the program coding to identify & explain the following: -
• where you have found examples of program constructs – sequence, selection & repetition
• what variables have been declared and what data types have been used
• any data structures that have been used
• any expressions and operators (arithmetic, relational, logical)

 As in task 2, go to the home page for  Units 4 & 6 at http://www.btinternet.com/~c.j.duley/.  View the source code for this Welcome Page.  Now, repeat Task 2, but this time for the code you found for the Welcome page.
