John Bates |
John Bates - profile With over 25 years of experience in identifying and developing new market opportunities and creating new businesses to exploit them, John Bates is one of the leading practitioners and educators in the field. After obtaining his first degree he worked as a sales and marketing manager for large companies in the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. In 1983 he joined the faculty of Harvard Business School. He later founded two high technology start-up companies based on his own product designs and acted as Chairman and Managing Director for both until they were sold to public companies. John Bates is currently a Teaching Fellow at London Business School, where his courses in New Venture Development and Managing the Growing Business are consistently among the most highly rated at the school. He also teaches on the Accelerated Development Program for fast track in service managers and on company-specific programs for clients seeking advice on market led innovation and entrepreneurial management. In addition John Bates is the Executive Director of the Foundation for Entrepreneurial Management at London Business School which is committed to the research and teaching of best practice in entrepreneurial management while providing practical support for emerging new businesses associated with LBS. The foundation is establishing a business incubator and a £5 million seed fund for new ventures in the Media and Technology sectors. John Bates has a BSc from Nottingham University and an MBA with High Distinction (Baker Scholar) from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration |
