Background

Campath-1H  is a potentially new treatment for Multiple Sclerosis or MS. The scientific name for Campath-1H is alemtuzumab. It is currently undergoing Phase III trials around the world determine whether it can help those with an early form of MS. The drug is a monoclonal antibody designed to target that part of the immune system which is assumed to be harming people with MS (PwMS).  It has been developed for a number of years, and has already been used as a treatment for B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

News

Results from the Phase II trial of Campath (alemtuzumab) for MS (CAMMS223) can be found here.

Genzyme have now started a Phase III trial. It will be split into two parts; one part for those who have had no treatment so far, and another for those whose existing treatment has not prevented relapses.

Important

I am not a doctor, but a person with MS who has undergone this treatment. This site is no substitute for professional medical advice, but merely a tool for those seeking more information on this subject. Campath-1H (alemtuzumab) is a powerful drug, and should only be considered as a treatment option after extensive consultations between a patient and their own medical practitioners.
