Collaboration is a form in itself. In the work I've done since 1995 with Elizabeth James on sound projects for BBC and independent radio, and more recently with Lesley Saunders and Peter Hay on the book Christina the Astonishing, experiment and improvisation have been much more than process. They are significant informers of the finished work, and as such every collaborative project is a real venture into the unknown. Standing back and listening objectively to a finished collaborative work gives back at least twice as much as, or more than, any individual puts in. Also, you get to have a lot more fun and drink a lot more wine.
