About the Circle - Birkenhead Circle No 69

Birkenhead, 69 Circle

Birkenhead Circle was inaugurated on Wednesday 10th January 1923. In March 1997 we held our 800th meeting in the Bowler Hat Hotel, Oxton; in October 1998 we celebrated our 75th anniversary and in November 2002 we held our 900th meeting. (See Recent Events).

The Circle meets every month except December.

The Circle Brothers are frequent visitors to other Circles in Province and elsewhere, and our current President, Brother Joe Sanderson is well known for his friendly welcome and his 'golfing stories'.

Meetings : Third Wednesday of every month, at The Kings Gap Court Hotel, The Kings Gap, Hoylake, Wirral. CH47 1HE. Register is open at 7.00pm for the meeting at 7.30pm. The telephone number of the Hotel is 0151 632 2073, but this is for emergencies only. To book in for a meeting, please telephone the Secretary, Peter Jones, no later than the Sunday prior to the meeting date. Dinner follows the meeting. This is a fine 3 course meal with coffee, and at the moment, costs £14.00 per head, including a raffle ticket for a bottle of whisky!
Lounge suites are standard, unless it is a special function. The wine cellar is reasonably priced.
Joint Meetings : We usually hold two of these each year. See 'Calendar of Events' page for dates of meetings during 2005/2006.
Ladies Night : This is usually held on or around St. Valentine' on 14th February. This is always a black tie event and consists of a formal dinner, followed by 'brief' after-dinner speeches, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the dancing and convivial company.
Our Ladies Night function for 2005/2006 will be held at The Brooke Meadow Hotel on Friday 10th February 2006..
Post Circle Ladies : We also invite the Ladies to dine with us post-Circle usually on four occasions each year and also for our Christmas party event to which Circle widows are invited.

In Memorium : Every November, Province 4 holds an Annual Mass for the deceased members of the Circles in Province at various parishes across Province. See the Calendar of Events page for the date in 2005, and our meetings page for details of those deceased Brothers of our Circle that we remember this month.
