 Neu! Filters - Introduction

These filters have all the same adjustable settings.

There are two randomise sliders to define the design, a selector to make them rotational, and increase the number of radial 'spokes' (keep it low!), and a zoom (for the rotational option).

I designed these to work in overwrite mode, which will obliterate any image that you apply them to, all is not lost though, with the addition of 'layers' to PSP, you can apply them to a seperate layer and use them to shade existing images. in a layer the two controls adjusting transparency can also be used.

The designs created are all greyscale, use the colorise option once you have created them.

See the help section if you need more information on downloading and installing filters. For more information and links to pages by peopleI like, have a look at the credits section

 Neu! Filters - Downloads
There are 10 filters in the Neu! collection, they all do pretty much the same thing, make weird patterns, click the image besides this text to download them all. The filter names are all song titles from a mid-70s German band called (you guessed!) 'Neu!' I have no idea what they mean.
 Neu! Filters - Help

If the following checklist isn't enough to help you get going then feel free tocontact me, Sandy Blair, at cateran@btinternet.com. Any feedback is welcome!

1. Unzip the files into your plugins folder.

The files on here are in a format called zip, it is a way of packaging up and compressing files so they are quicker to transfer over the internet.

If you don't have a program to 'unzip' them you can get one here.Winzip

The Neu! filter pack contains a small text file, and a set of 10 '8bf' files, it is these files you need to copy into your plugins folder.

If you don't already have a specific folder on your computer for plug-insyou will need to create one. PSP users can call it 'plugins' or anything you like! Photoshop users probably already have one below the Photoshop directory.

2. Check you have msvcrt10.dll.

These Filters use a format originally designed for Adobe Photoshop, PSP can read this format, but it needs an additional file called msvcrt10.dll to be placed in the Windows/System folder.

A zipped copy of msvcrt10.dll

3. Check your program knows where to find the plugins folder.

In PSP:

Select File
- Preferences
- General Program Preferences...
- Select the Plug-in Filters tab.

Ensure there is a tick in the 'Enable filters' box andthat the 'folders' list points to your plugins folder.

4. Check the image is 16 million colors.

In PSP:
Select Colors
- Increase Color Depth

5. Select the Filter.

In PSP:
On the menu bar, click on 'Image' then 'Plugin Filters' (right at the bottom).
You should now see a menu of filters, choose the Neu! one and then choose one of the filters. It will apply the design to your image.

the Filter Factory Discussion list folks

If you find these filters useful then it would be nice if you link back to me, but you don't have to. Please don't link to the downloadable files directly, and under no circumstances copy the files and offer them for download on your own web page (isn't it sad I need to say that?).

Wanted, cool tutorials that use these filters, if you find a good set of settingsor an unusual way to use them in a design let me know.
