Succeeding at Work

A new book by Belbin providing a practical guide to using the Belbin Team Role model to maximise performance

Background to the book

It is a sad truth that despite many people proclaiming how interesting and useful their Belbin reports are they fail to put the information to full use.  Of course, there are many exceptions to this, particularly when the feedback is provided as part of a performance improvement initiative and managed by a trained facilitator.  The truth is however that there are still a lot of people wondering how to put the information contained in  their Belbin Team Role profile report to good use.  This was the background to Nigel Belbin initiating a new book called Succeeding at Work and the book will help people do literally what it says on the cover if the advice and guidance it contains is applied.

For individuals

Succeeding at Work explains to you in a practical and easy to follow guide how to use the knowledge of your Team Role profile.  It takes you on a journey of raising your self awareness through to maximising your performance and worth in terms of how you manage yourself, your relationship with work colleagues, your contribution to a team and plan your career and personal development.  If you have a Belbin Team Role profile report it is a must read.

For teams and workgroups

The book also provides lots of practical advice on how to manage working relationships effectively and how to use the Team Role model to enhance team performance.

For trainers and facilitators

Succeeding at Work is an ideal reference book for you to use and for you to provide as a handout.  By drawing on the advice it contains you will gain a reputation for bringing about tangible performance improvements.

"This is an insightful and useful addition to the Belbin library, easy to read and practical to use. This book will appeal to both the experienced practitioner and individuals learning about Meredith Belbin’s work for the first time.

There are some real gems in the book, particularly the sections on how to handle difficult people and assessing organisational culture. I also liked to the Do's and Dont's for each Team Role, very helpful for a Resource Investigator facilitator!

This is a must read for all, providing a good foundation for understanding team dynamics and how managers can use Team Role theory to enhance the effectiveness of both individuals and teams in the workplace.

Belbin's work continues to evolve. It has stood the test of time and I believe it has even more relevance in today's modern workplace than ever before."
