West of England Labrador Retriever Show

At last the long awaited day had come, the West of England Labrador Retriever Show. I squeezed in a ring craft session (a class showing you how to behave in a show ring) on 8th January 2007 and then off to the show at Woolavington (nr Bridgewater) on 13th January 2007 to arrive for 10:00 hrs.

Strutting my stuff!

When we arrived I couldn’t wait to get out of the car, so many people and Labradors to meet, were they all here to see me? I got out of the car and stretched my legs, sniffed the air and had a chat with one or two other dogs. We went into the hall and saw other dogs and people, what fun I just couldn’t contain my excitement but the other dogs were all rather serious.

Waiting for the judge to decide

Then at 10:45hr my normal collar and lead was taken off and my new thin lead was put on and then I was told “this is it Basil, let's go”. I walked into the ring where we had to run around, then I was touched and squeezed (by a very nice Judge) in the most unbelievable places! Then we all had to line up whereby I was given some pheasant to eat to keep me standing still and looking alert followed by a big squeeze by my owner told how wonderful I am. I was given a blue rosette so I did something right because we were all pleased and happy. And to just confirm that everybody was there specifically for me I was given a round of applause by everybody sitting around the ring – gosh I was so proud!! What a day…

My first certificate My beautiful rosette

I think I will be doing it again but I will have to work a bit more on standing so we will be going to ring craft again. What fun!

I wear this all the time
