When in 1942 the Japanese advanced into northern Burma they cut the Burma Road, the supply route linking India and China. The only avenue left open for the Allies to supply China with vital war material was to fly them over the Himalayan mountain range which divided the two countries, which became known as the "Hump". Not only was the terrain extremely treacherous but the ferocious monsoon storms took a heavy toll of aircraft. Both Douglas C47 Dakotas and Curtiss C46 Commandos of the RAF and USAAF were used. The former type is shown in the painting.

      Superstar"

British Airways Concorde flying over the Thames estuary at Southend on Sea, Essex, England. Southend began staging annual air show in the early eighties and in those days Concorde often put in a performance with passengers on board when returning from a supersonic trip round the Bay of Biscay.
