Sept 1st
The Colchester and Tendring open on the 31st August
provided Chelmsford with a medal haul to rival Team GB at the
Olympics. Numerous medal winners, too many mention all here. A
partial listing is on the CATS
website. However, notable success included Lyndsey North taking
both 100 & 200 sprints, Natasha Danino winning the U11 600m and Rachel
Goodey taking gold in the U11 80m. Holly Manning in the U17's taking
Silver in both the hurdles and 100m. Hannah Besford lifting Silver in both
the long jump and hurdles in the U15's. Hannah also set a new club
record for the triple jump in 9.70.

August 25th
Due to serious computer problems the website has been out of action
for sometime. I am now updating where possible with league results
and personal performances.
Updated winter fixture
list.
Southern Women's Results all now posted, up to
and including Match 5. League position is 18th with one very
important match remaining at Ealing.
I will be updating club records achieved this year in due course, keep an
eye on this page to see if yours
has been updated if not let me know.
EYAL match one and
two performances loaded. This was a below par start for the team due to
the Essex Champs taking away many athletes. This year's final is at
Bedford once again this year on September 12th. It looks to be a
great day out and we will be looking to go one better than our second
position of last year.

Essex Championships - Day 1 results on http://essexathletics.org.uk
On a very sunny and warm weekend Melbourne Park was packed for days 2 and
3 of the Championships. A full set of club results will be posted
when available. In the meantime let me mention a few excellent club
performances over the 3 days. Club records were broken by Matt Tong
in the U15b 80mH who set a new time of 11.67. Matt also went on the
win the long jump in 6.13. Tashan Christian smashed the U17M 100m record
by going sub 11secs for the first time in a run of 11.97. Lyndsey
North U15G took gold in the 200m and silver in the long jump. Hannah
Besford retained her long jump crown from last year by winning the U15G
event in her first year, this after lifting a bronze on day 1 in her first
pentathlon event. Lewis Taylor U15B gained silvers in both the
hammer and shot events. In the 800m Emma Haley continues to
improve with a victory plus new club record and I suspect a pb in the 800m
in a time of 2.11.5. Rebecca French broke the club record in the
80mh in a 5th place finish in 12.35. Rebecca also took bronze in the long
jump and silver in the shot.
In the under 13 girls a bronze was won in the 75m sprint by Jessica
Grainger and a silver by Gemma Phillips in the 800m.

Essex Championships day 1 - A stout umbrella was
needed at Newham!!
Southern men's league kicked off with a 4th place for the division 1 side
- results.
Well done to the juniors who are now forming part of the senior team.
Luke Keteleers ran well in the 400mh, completed a strong pole vault, 200m
and high jump. GB International Decathlete Alex Gibson improved his
club record shot with a 13.60 throw and then went on to score excellent
points in a further 5 events. The division 3 side went straight to
the top of the league with a victory in their fixture at Ipswich.
The Eastern Young Athletes league got off to an unusually bad start for
us, mainly due to a number of athletes choosing to opt out as the day 1
Essex Championships fell on the following day. With very few
athletes on the day a 4th place finish was always going to happen - results

27th April
Summer track is under way and the results are
starting to appear.
Our first Southern Women's of the year proved a tough match away at
Reading against some strong opposition. It was good to see new girl
Louise Wood so strong in winning her B string 100m in 12.5 and the triple
jump in 11.58 (which was a new senior women's club record) . Other
Chelmsford victors include Siobham Dennehy and Emma Haley who completed a
high jump double in 1.56 and 1.45 respectively. Club
results
On Sunday it was the first Anglian fixture at
Colchester's Garrison Track. With a very busy programme the honours
were fairly evenly spread between the team. The under 13 boys won
their match as did the under 17 men. With 2nd place finish to the
senior men and an overall 2nd place finish just behind West Suffolk. Club
Results.

10th April
Many thanks to the athletes, officials, parents
and helpers who supported our annual Easter Saturday open. Despite
the unavoidable clash with the Alpha-Beta match over 600 entries were
received. I heard of many pb's being notched up, which is great.
Highlight of the day for me was the senior men's 100m. With Graham
Hedman and Leighton Green head to head. Graham clinched the win in
10.8. Full result listing here.

starting the season with a 100m pb. Alex Lusty and Anna Parkins made a
good pair in both the 100m and Long jump competitions in the u13 girls.

the 100m and long whilst little sister Ellie ran her first 70m hurdles
finishing 3rd.
In the men's events, decathlete Alex Gibson loosened up in the Hammer,
discus and shot. Whilst the middle distance duo of Matt Missen and Oli
Fahey ran strongly in the 400m and 1500m junior men's races. Luke
Keteleers ran a pb in the 100m hurdles and the u17 men squad proved very
strong in the 1500m. The impressive pair of Matt Tong and Lewis

You cannot help to have seen the press comment
about the intended use of the Melbourne Park as a host for football and
possibly Rugby by Chelmsford Borough Council. We are of course
against the idea and are lobbying strongly, with good reason to avoid the
mix of sporting activities. Melbourne Park was developed as a centre
of excellence for athletics and should remain as such.

A small group of Chelmsford athletes made the
trip to Birmingham to experience the national AAA championships.
Entering the arena has the effect of making the most confident athlete
(and coach) nervous. However, Matt Tong (U15) collected 3
medals in the 60mh 1st, L/J 2nd and S/P 2nd. Emma Haley (U17) broke
the club 800m record in her heat with a time of 2.12.74. Sam Boxall (U15)
made the 60m final and produced a best time of 7.55.
